Meaningful Data

Leveraging its relationship with Microsoft to assist with drug development, Parexel has introduced the world to several new patient-centric solutions that utilize its Perceptive Cloud platform. The patient-centric solutions for drug development feature mobile and wearable tech to make access to data for better patient interactions during clinical research faster and better, the company explained.

One of the solutions takes advantage of Microsoft’s Azure App Services “to harvest and send health alerts from mobile devices that will give clinical staff and investigators automatic data updates in order to monitor potential threats to patient safety and decrease the risk of patient mortality and morbidity,” according to a recent article by Joseph Keenan in Fierce Biotech. Parexel’s Patient Sensor Solution will now have additional connected medical devices. The company’s Sensor Solution utilizes AI for predictive patient compliance monitoring, which has been expanded to manage enhanced data transfer.

According to Douglas Barta, Parexel’s chief information officer, “Technology has made it possible to access more meaningful data than ever before, while improving the patient experience. The challenge is in collecting that data in a way that is efficient for the patient, site, and investigator.”

In a flurry of activity, Parexel has been expanding its offerings and partnerships. About a month ago, Parexel announced a partnership with healthcare tech company Datavant to enhance the design and operations of clinical studies and generate more real-world evidence. That news came Shortly after the company’s opening of its Patient Innovation Center “focused on boosting efficiency and success in biopharma development areas including clinical trial design, recruitment, execution and market access,” Keenan’s article explained.

According to the company’s website, the Perceptive Cloud provides complete Regulatory Information Management (RIM) and Regulatory Content Management, enabling “the only truly end-to-end solution for regulatory business processes available today.” The Regulatory Cloud gives users a “single source of truth, deployed in a dedicated, private cloud environment.” According to Parexel, the private cloud exceeds the advantages of an on-premises or public cloud environment, plus the benefits provided by a hosted solution. The latter would include enhanced end-to-end workflow; single solution for document tracking and approval with powerful submission planning, publishing, archival, and registration management that supports the lifespan of documents and products; and easily trackable progress of authoring, upcoming submissions, and planning for future workload within the submissions space.

Parexel keeps the Perceptive Cloud current with new features and functionality and streamlines upgrades and validation. The company offers full lifecycle system maintenance to help users to comply with global regulations. It offers reduced hardware, third party software and data center infrastructure spending. To maintain safe and secure data, Parexel offers identity-based security to ensure that only authorized people are able to access the infrastructure and application resources they require. The company also provides the “highest levels of network, physical and application security to protect against today’s threats.

Other features include comprehensive backup, failover and disaster recovery procedures to guarantee data protection from the unexpected. The company offers increased performance by means of virtualization of IT infrastructure to provide a scalable and fault tolerant platform.
